Where can patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), a type of primary liver cancer, find comprehensive information about their illness and possible treatments?
An extensive study in 2017 and subsequent discussions with patients, relatives and physicians showed that there was no information offer for liver cancer patients and their relatives that provided all the important information on liver cancer at a glance and in an understandable manner.
Preliminary research also showed that only few patients were well informed about the treatment they had undergone, the decision-making process of physicians and alternative treatments. Based on these findings, we have developed a treatment finder together with a leading team of liver cancer experts. With this treatment finder, patients can enter diagnostically relevant parameters to receive an initial assessment of possible treatments. The finder’s query algorithm takes into account only the current recommendations of the German guideline for liver cancer (HCC) and is regularly updated. After entering the data, users receive detailed explanations of the possible treatment methods. The treatment finder is embedded in a central homepage on the subject of liver cancer at leberkrebshilfe.info. There, patients and their relatives can find easy-to-understand and comprehensive explanations about all aspects of liver cancer.
